Own Boat or Personal Watercraft Training Form

Instructions for those seeking to utilise their own boat or personal watercraft ('own boat') on a course run by Powerboat Training UK, Aquasafe Powerboat School and Marine Education.

This form only needs completing by the main contact that booked the course - we only need one copy of this form.

The company undertakes training on a client’s vessel subject to the following conditions:

  • That the client adheres to our Terms & Conditions of Booking – which specifically address own boat tuition.

  • That the vessel is adequately equipped for the course being undertaken.

When training on your boat we require certain equipment to be carried on board. If you do not have all of the equipment then we may be able to lend this for the duration of the course but this must be agreed with us in advance. Please visit this page on our website which details the equipment that you should have on board. Click here

Please note: If your vessel is over 13.7m then you are legally required to carry certain equipment. These two links will provide you more information about these regulations.

The course Instructor(s) will make an assessment of the client’s vessel on the first morning of the course. If in the Instructor’s opinion the vessel is not fit for the course to be undertaken on then the course will be cancelled. In making their assessment the Instructor is to be allowed (should they require) to undertake a short trip with the client to assess it. In the unlikely eventuality that the client’s vessel is considered unsuitable then the following terms apply:

  • If it is feasible the school will offer the immediate use of its own vessel(s) for the course - this would be chargeable at our standard rates less 10%.

  • In the event that the school’s vessel(s) are either unsuitable for the course or are unavailable then the client will be liable to the school for 100% of the total course cost. If the client chooses to rebook the course after remedying the reasons for the Instructor's decision to not run the course then the school will discount the new course cost by 50%.

  • That the Instructors reasonable demands will always be followed during the duration of the course – refer ‘Terms & Conditions of booking’.

Please fee free to call us to discuss the equipment that you have on your craft and its suitability for a course.

Please note these terms from our Terms and Conditions of Business that relate specifically to own boat training:

Own boat tuition/personal equipment. Tuition is provided on the following basis:

  • The vessel is insured by the owner for loss, damage and legal liability to third parties

  • The client remains the skipper and legally responsible for the safe management of the vessel at all times (including when under tuition) and will not hold the Company responsible for any loss or damage.

  • The client undertakes to secure the consent of the insurers to this agreement.

  • Where marina fees/short stay charges etc are incurred these are the responsibility of the client.

  • The client will ensure their boat is in an appropriate mechanical state for the course to be run. Where a course needs to extended due to delays resulting from problems with the vessel additional time will be charged at our standard rates. Where we need to provide a vessel to replace a client’s own boat on a course then this will be at our standard charter rates.

A client who seeks ‘own boat tuition’ warrants that their craft carries equipment as detailed on the company’s website and that the vessel is fit to proceed to sea. Clients warrant that that any of their own equipment that they choose to use on a course (e.g. a lifejacket) are serviced in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and have been checked prior to attending course.
